This a film which treats its audience as idiots that literally need things spelled out for them.
I guess it takes a star for makeup.

This is a difficult film on at least two levels. First, some scenes will be hard to watch. Secondly, because making sense of the film will not be straightforward. My take is that the film is meant to be as abstract as Laszlo's work, hence it can be hard to choose which of the underlying themes to engage with.
On the other hand, Corbet's creative vision and Brody's performance kept me hooked and made it easier to stay engaged.
I hate that I witnessed a war criminal have the luxury to grasp what he had done at his own pace, but I also appreciate the rare opportunity to glimpse into the revealing subconcious of a man who never saw himself as the villain.
There are some music bands I'll describe their music process as merely dropping instruments down the stairs and see what comes out of it. This does not necessarily mean I hate their music, but it's just how I choose to describe it.
That's what the pacing in this film feels like to me. Many times, I wasn't sure a new scene had just begun. The result is a very unique kind of vertigo that could be produced by a piece of work that avoids consistent cut cues.
