Battleship Potemkin 1925
as an editor, I was struck by how masterfully Eisenstein uses the cut. I think there is magic within his use of montage; he directly uses our natural way of associating images with feelings to bring emotion into the viewing experience. I was very impressed by this one and I see why Eisenstein is still celebrated for his groundbreaking techniques.

Un Chien Andalou 1929
another film-student must-see. I was particularly intrigued by the amount of discomfort this film hopes to bring the audience. it worked, don't get me wrong, but it still didn't make much sense in the end. the shock makes the film.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari 1920
a must-see for film students such as myself; as an avid Tim Burton lover the German Expressionist look was somewhat comforting. it has an engaging visual aspect but the story is subpar.
