  This film is (for obvious reasons) too tied to the original to actually deconstruct and modernise its story, so none of the changes actually achieve anything. It ends up with the same forced uprising narrative Wish had, yet again having the “good guys” rebel against a  ̶g̶r̶e̶e̶d̶y̶ ̶c̶a̶p̶i̶t̶a̶l̶i̶s̶t̶ villain who is evil just because. I know Disney simply can’t go there, but there’s no point to portraying a rebellion without raising any questions concerning political and economic power, so why bother?…

  The film felt somewhat unfocused and unsure of the story it wanted to tell. Or there just wasn’t as much of a story as intended. I don’t really think Riefenstahl works as a proxy for the way the average German struggles with the atrocities of the Hitler regime, nor is the film enough of an indictment of her own role in the Third Reich. It doesn’t give a worthwhile take on the way she grappled with it on a personal level either, so it mostly just left me confused about what I should have as my takeaway from this.

  So judging from the vibe in my theatre I think I am to assume “Marvel is back.” But I’m just going to accept the fact I have turned full hater and call it a day.

  The jokes are funny, I’ll give the film that and I was actually really entertained by the opening. But it just kept going and going and going, not really headed anywhere except the next joke or action scene. Emma Corrin is eating up the scenery…
