Watched the 50year rerelease edition.The themes are certainly interesting. I am going to go on ahead and guess that the spark for such a movie to be made are the plenty of spiritual movements that sparked up around the 60s and early 70s, with young people leading a life far from Christianity, which from my reading lead to a somewhat exaggerated panic around the subject at the time.
