The film is pretty uneven but…
The scene where George notices the puppets legs, while all of the kids and adults are immersed in the Judy and Punch show, as if to say he sees right through the act and has been robbed of his child-like innocence is one of the best visual storytelling moments I’ve seen in some time.
Subjective storytelling in every sense. Riz Ahmed’s performance is brilliant in its simplicity and equally in its theatrics. The bold sound design is never gimmicky - everything resounds thematically in measure and time.
It’ll make you’re heart reverberate, pound and tear like a beaten but artfully played drum skin.
