  I liked this. A lot of memorable visuals that rely on, at least in part, a class between the environment and these uncanny representations of historical figures (buckwheat cleaning the pope was a personal favorite). The movie plays with audible and visual signification a lot in a way that feel supplementary to the story, and I really appreciated this.

  This was my second watch about a year and a half after the first time I watched it. This is one of my favorite pieces of film media for so many reasons. The acting, directing, production, and writing of this movie are absolutely fantastic. I visually love this movie as much as I love the writing. The blending of historical and philosophical themes into the film and having them actively pitted against one another in the background of the story is a skill I envy from a writing standpoint. Really love this one.
