Borderline is the directorial debut of the writer of Cocaine Bear, and honestly it reminds me of CB a lot.

The tone shifts jarringly from scene to scene and the movie can’t quite seem to decide what it’s actually about, but still a fun time and worth watching nonetheless, especially for Ray Nicholson’s Jim Carrey-esque performance.  That’s worth the price of admission alone.

Loved it.   I honestly didn’t think The Da Vinci Code would really be my thing exactly but the mystery was super compelling.  It did feel a little overly long,  like it could’ve (and maybe should’ve) ended 15 minutes earlier, but that’s the only critique I’ve got for it.

Having now see this and having some hindsight on Longlegs, I’m totally convinced that Oz Perkins is just shitposting in movie form and I’m here for it.

Where Longlegs’s moments of absurdist humor are spaced out between the somber, dread-filled supernatural mystery, The Monkey is full of jaw-dropping insanity from start to finish.  Whether it’s the wildly over the top kills or the downright puzzling acting choices (+ Theo James’s mullet), everything about The Monkey is delightfully unhinged.

This is easily Perkins’s most irreverent and enjoyable movie, and I think he’s really found his “thing” with this weird little gem.

    Best undercover Christmas movie ever.

Everyone in the cast is fantastic but Lily Rose Depp’s performance is so impressively wild and energetic that she pretty much outshines anyone else on screen.  Bill Skarsgard is great as probably the most grotesque yet magnetic vampire I’ve ever seen.  He completely disappears into the role to the point that I’d never guess it was him if I didn’t already know.  Also I love how big the world of this movie looks and…
