Felt like I was missing something, and there could’ve been much more fleshed out rather than just explained throughout the movie. Zac Efron’s performance was memorable, and the ending scene was one of the more powerful ones ive seen, but aside from that I was somewhat underwhelmed. I didn’t quite understand the constant talk of the family curse and how that was the big “problem” they were always secretly having to deal with. The wrestling shots are well directed and…

Sigh. I really liked this. Truly. I just wanted more, and I felt like it could’ve given it to me if it got a few more things right/better. Pugh and Garfield were awesome together (to no one’s surprise), but they had to juice everything out of their characters to get it there. The constant flipping between years is easy to follow, yet the pacing within the scenes feels off at certain times. There are some great bits in here whether…

Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

Whew, it has been a while since I’ve seen this, and it shows.

    What I liked :
    - Darth Maul (yet I wanted more of him on screen).
    - Podracing & Ben Quadrinaros.
    - End Lightsaber Duel (Top 3 saber battle of the franchise).

    What I didn’t like :
    - This movie is boring, and the plot is extremely dull.
-A majority of the lead roles give uninspiring performances, and why the hell is Anakin 5 years old!
    - Jar Jar Binks and his dreadfully undeserved amount of screen time.
    - The underutilization and lack of character development for Obi-Wan.

Pleasantly surprised upon rewatch. Sure, the pacing is wildly too fast at times, and the original Star Wars “code” is broken more than I would like to admit, but damn its entertaining to say the least. We get classic corny moments mixed in with some awesome cinematic elements and battles. This movie honestly does a decent job setting the stage for the movies to follow, its just a shame that it collapses on itself later down the line. 3.5/5, but could be a 3 depending on the day.
