Completely forgot about the Kaiju Monsters from the Captain Underpants books. The style really threw me back to the elementary school library. Dav Pilkey knows precisely how to tap into the idea of "comic book with the creativity of a 4th grader"
Good fun, and I think I know what book series to buy next for my daughter
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Hoult and Collette saved this thing. Lots of good from them, lots of head scratching for the rest.
The movie suffers throughout from just simple faults in logic. Could've been great... Which means I have grievances to air:
Alright, it took the jury over an hour into the movie to consider the possibility that it was an accidental hit and run... on a narrow street at night in the pouring rain? Mind you, the movie didnt explain why the former…
Lots of stuff going for it that i dont think needs repeating. But it did feel like they were running out of ideas and how to push forward without being repetitive (they opted for repetition often). Given that there was zero dialogue, I'd still call it a success. Glad I watched, also was glad to finally see the credits roll.
4yo daughter seemed to like it and was less twitchy than during Moana 2. But I could tell she was also feeling that runtime weighing on her.
6/10
Slowly but surely checking off some Martial Arts classics.
Good fun. Much more of a goofy spy flick than I imagined, in a good way. Bruce Lee is pure energy.
