I wanted to love it but didn't quite. An unrealistic number of characters in various Asian countries in 1918 understand/speak Portugese, the mix of olden-days and modern footage is unnecessarily confusing, the storytelling relies too heavily on narration rather than visuals, and it's much less funny than the loud old people around me in the audience seemed to think. Great ideas that I wish had been better executed.

Gabriel and the Mountain 2017
Watching Gabriel was occasionally like looking in a rather uncomfortable mirror. A wonderful, subtle portrait of a privileged (but infuriatingly reckless) young white guy backpacking around poorer countries looking for 'authenticity'.
