Cinderella in a strip club. On the strength of Red Rocket, this was probably my most anticipated film of the year. Happy to say it did not disappoint. Hilarious, tense and beautifully sad, like Baker's previous films, Anora is concerned with the transactional nature of love. Without giving away too much, the film's humour is a kind of sleight of hand, with the full weight of the heroine's tragedy not becoming apparent until the film's final moments.
