Umbrellas 1994
I knew the story of a woman getting killed by one of the umbrellas just above Dead Man’s Curve on the Grapevine, and I think about it every time I drive past. The film covers the tragedy, but glosses over the second death by electrocution, which happened during the deinstallation of the umbrellas in japan, probably because the filmmakers had ceased filming by then. It is just terrible that an artwork so profoundly irrational caused two deaths.

I rewatched it with maya after we met Miranda July and Mike mills on Valentine’s Day. Stella is their nanny and they came over to drop off vegetables.

Wow… I didn’t know this movie genre existed. Contemporary dance film. The plot was so strange and half arsed, it sometimes felt like watching a porno movie, just waiting to get to the action, see their bodies move. Rowan is the obvious shining star.
