  The movie starts off strong—really strong. Long hypnotic sequences, and an overwhelming sound mix that feels like it’s swallowing you whole. The editing is patient, the imagery surreal, and the whole thing feels meticulously planned. Eggers clearly had these sequences locked in from pre-prod because they’re too precise, too intentional, to have been thrown together in post.   I think it tries to tackle too much and doesn’t fully handle the trans or Mexican cartel subjects with care. However many  viewers might overlook that because it’s a stylized musical that charms with its boldness. Despite its flaws, it’s an engaging story and an interesting musical. Compared to something like Wicked, Emilia Perez feels more grounded, focusing on real world issues rather than high fantasy escapism and big performances.
