I think folks these days most associate Eddie Murphy with Donkey or just silly family comedies, but the dude was the coolest back in the day. He basically owned the 80s. Anyway, this flick is still pretty solid.
The direction and cinematography isn’t flashy in the slightest but nevertheless well-shot and simple to follow. The only real action is the opening chase and then the finale shoot-out. The real “special effect” is, straight-up, Eddie being Eddie.
I’m dead serious when I say one of my favorite things in the history of action cinema are brawls that take place in public restrooms. Happy to report that Mission: Impossible Fallout carries on the rich legacy with an S-tier, all-timer fancy bathroom brouhaha. Great flick, overall.
Saw Furiosa last night and it’s a 5 star masterpiece. I then came home and rewatched Fury Road for the first time in years- and that’s also still a 5 star masterpiece.
Would’ve easily been 4 1/2, at least, if only Tom cruise’s absolutely shitty son didn’t survive. Plus the movie grinds to a halt when Tim Robbins shows up and the flick turns into that one Jurassic Park-raptors-stalking-the-kids scene, but like 2 or 3 times in a row. Cmon Spielberg you’re better than this.
But most importantly: fuck that kid.
