This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Probably have to watch it again, but going into it and wanting to like it (big fan of I Saw the Devil by the same director) I’ll admit this has been a frustrating experience.
What could have been good scares or creepy moments were destroyed by super loud sound effects that plague (usually Western) horror cinema today. Perhaps I should be giving this credit for being almost 20 years ahead of them in that regard.
The script felt all over…
I might have missed it, but I don't think it was ever specified the movie actually takes place on a Friday or a 13th for that matter.
Hopefully they never shoot another movie because this completely blew ass and didn't even manage to make the prospect of seeing young adults fucking and getting murdered during or after the deed was done at least a little bit entertaining. Thank God that franchise stayed dead since. Just as lame as the original.
A blast to watch. Having read Umineko no Naku Koro Ni and trying to pay some attention during the mystery solving in a murder mystery, I must say I was glad to have caught up on some of the clues that were spread throughout or missed at first glance.
Very satisfying to witness everything come together, many “aha” moments, a lot at stake, and a good cast to round it all up make this an easy recommendation for basically everyone except clowns who might get upset at some of the political banter in it.
I’m a fan of the original, it’s probably my favorite zombie movie next to Shaun of the Dead and one of my “comfort movies” since my early teens. That said, it took me surprisingly long to watch this one.
After only having seen the lame trailers as ads on a gacha game, fearing it would cringey as those trailers, I am pleasantly surprised it captured the spirit of the original pretty well.
