Spring Breakers 2012
Spring Breakers exploits the appeal of its title: the new American dream, corrupted, and twisted.
The girls just mock what they see in pop culture the entire runtime, and embrace a hedonistic approach: only following what provides pleasure and avoids pain — showing us a world of drugs, drinking, and partying all day. Alien, a character in the film, personifies this corrupt version of the American dream. All he cares about is money, guns, and doing the wrong thing.

Bride of Chucky 1998
Refines the balance between Chucky’s demented perception of life, combined with a Bonnie and Clyde vibe, making it arguably the 2nd best film in the franchise. It has the Kodak Vision 320T film stock, giving the world of Chucky this polished look we haven’t seen before. Taking into account its self aware meta humor, heavy metal soundtrack, and it leaning into the campy side, but with respect to classic horror cinema .. this feels like a 90s period piece.
Multiple Dutch angles, memorable set pieces, plenty of pushed in shots, creative kills — succeeds in everything it sets out to do.

Pleasure 2021
Thyberg’s ambitious piece completely exploits the porn industry, showcasing its peer pressure, lasting internal and external damage, power dynamics, male dynamics, objectification, and grooming.
It incorporates so many traits of Italian neorealism in its acting, set locations, and lighting, giving it an authentic raw feel. This is contrasted with French new wave themes of sexual liberation or social modernism — reflecting gender, identity, and navigating power systems.
Sofía Kappel .. I am still surprised this is her first role. She made…
