I’m not straight enough to rank this any higher but that final act was S tier

I can’t believe that I went 28 years only being spoiled on

    1. Musical motifs
    2. Some of the opening scenes/transitions
    3. Basic HAL plot

    And nothing else

What a privilege it was to see that in its entirety totally blind. I cannot believe this film was allowed to be made — let alone in the 1960s. I am still just in awe of so much of this thing many minutes after viewing. I have so many thoughts and questions…

I usually hate period pieces. I usually hate anything related to war.

Barry Lyndon was both but completely blew me away.

First off, the cinematography is next level. Every frame looks like a painting. The candlelit scenes especially are delicious.

I just don’t even know how this film got made. There’s so much working against it on paper but in execution it’s just so stinking good.

While the run time can seem daunting, it went by fairly quick. Kubrick paced this story perfectly. I honestly cannot wait to see it again. Hopefully on a larger screen not in my apartment.

First two acts were sublime. Incredible tension, pacing, and narrative mystery kept me hooked. All three leads were great but the boys stole the show.

Final act was so unnecessarily long I honestly was waiting for it to be over. Which is a shame because the final few minutes were almost worth it.

10/10 soundtrack. I felt like I was at a gay club!

Easily some of the best digital cinematography I’ve seen in a while. I don’t even know…
