Act 1 NAILED the classic Looney Tunes routines. Act 2 Pulled a “Life Is Beautiful” and made itself more depressingly realistic. But that’s just me; I’ve never been a huge fan of major/sudden tone shifts. I prefer lighthearted comedies to stay lighthearted all the way through, like Spaceballs or Monty Python. I went in expecting simple hotel hijinks, but was pleasantly surprised by a moving and thrilling “not-WW2” adventure. Willam Dafoe stole the show, naturally, in every scene he was in. The prison break scene also reminded me of Paddington 2 (aka the perfect movie), so that’s always a plus in my book.
