Well acted and shot but couldn't seem to figure out what kind of movie it wanted to be (at points seeming to follow a Shutter Island route and then towards the end loses all mystery really, which kills all the momentum a little prematurely)

Ehrengard: The Art of Seduction 2023
It was what it had to be: a beautiful period drama, with confident direction and engaging performances, not to mention, most importantly, a fun time.
It is flawed, for sure, however it would be wrong, and at the fault of the viewer, to watch it with total seriousness. It demands a levity and lenient eye that doesn't allow itself to be distracted from the primary task of storytelling.

Brilliant performances, especially by Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali. Well structured plot which balances out the more outlandish and surrealist events in a way that stops them from seeming cartoonish (like Don't Look Up) or dystopian (Hunger Games vibes). Good stuff 4.1
