The Grand Budapest Hotel 2014
the most impressive thing about this film to me is that it manages to capture the exact vibe, style and narrative energy of a very specific genre of novel/memoir of a vaguely well-off 1900s-ish White American or European man who throughout the course of his day-to-day life goes interesting places and meets fantastical, larger than life people and this is all remarkable and yet also ordinary to him. and the film is directly referencing this type of work and does so absolutely brilliantly. especially the set design and music. phenomenal.
