I did enjoy watching this; the warm colors and quirky style were pretty, pleasing. But, I struggle to see it as the ‘subversive’ film it’s been described as. Some of the dialogue and small actions felt predictable to me or fell short, and at times, the movie felt a bit full of itself.

Pearl (from Hell) was odd, a little unsettling (and so fun) to watch.

watching this movie for the first time at the cinema, at home, was quite special. Alphaville has a lasting impact. much like Orwell's or Huxley's imagined dystopian societies, Godard's galactic metropolis seems awfully familiar.
