I really, really love how Carole Bouquet plays the role of Mystère with her mesmerizing and and her ambiguous smile. Also some other favorite faces like Janet Ågren, John Steiner and Gabriele Tinti. A nice score from Armando Trovajoli.
The story is some kind of giallo/thriller with a touch of noir that is really good but the ending is somewhat a letdown. But still a really good 80s giallo and a recommended watch. Vinegar syndromes bluray is very good.
A low-budget 80s horror film from Belgium that delivers quite well. The pace of the film could have been a little faster (10-15 minutes shorter running time would have benefited it), a little less screaming people and a little more gore. The effects that are there are good for the budget. You have to take the film for what it is.
This is the first time I have seen the movie in HD, I have watched it on VHS in the 90s. A really nice release by Vinegar syndrome.
First 25-30 minutes have a fast pace with amazing dialogue that you need to hear to believe. The flashback scene for the next 40-50 min do have a slower pace and the dialogue is not as crazy, but still good. There is still great stuff happening, like when the soldiers comes to a almost "abandoned" village or when the soldiers are invited, after some hesitation, to a farmer and his daughter's house.
If I remember correctly I prefer the Dirty seven cut, will check it again tomorrow. Emanuelle: Queen of the desert is still one good movie.
The retaliator / Programmed to kill (1987).
A group of terrorists with Hassim and his girlfriend Samira (Sandahl Bergman), who is white and blonde among the Middle Eastern dark men, strike and kill 25 and take 2 American children as hostage.
The US deploys their top team, led by Robert Ginty, to retrieve the hostages. They manage to free the hostages but Hassim managed to escape so Ginty takes his girlfriend Samira back to the US. Unfortunately, she is so…
