The Substance doesn’t do subtext, only squelching blood and bones, projectile vomiting it’s point- and it rules. It’s a nasty and on the nose look at the female experience. Such a great examination of self-hating vanity and beauty as a form of self harm. The Substance slayed i fear.

men stop making films about women challenge. Fr the entire movie was her crying and displayed her as the eternal victim which left no room to display her autonomy as a human being and the ways in which she advocated for herself. In many ways she was victimized but there’s just absolutely no nuance in this movie. Nvm the misogynistic shit the director said about the woman HE MADE THE FILM ABT….Ultimate man moment/neg.
