I like the contemplative nature and the general mood of the film but don't quite understand the actions of the characters. The sister couldn't wait to escape from the dreary place because for the most part the people around her seem unwell. In parts I felt I understood Mr Doherty but then I'm not sure.

Rarely have I seen an Assamese film with the kind of sophistication Gulai Soor brings in both its writing and direction. I wasn’t expecting to see a queer lead character in an Assamese film anytime soon, let alone one handled so well. Even filmmakers from bigger industries often miss the mark, either pandering or too sermonizing when trying to 'sensitively' portray such characters. But here, it’s so refreshing to see how naturally it all unfolds.

I'm dumbfounded by the overwhelmingly positive reviews this film received in the west. RRR is everything I despise about the over the top South Indian action masala flicks. It has lead men who are the "man's men", the sort whom perhaps only the Gods could defeat, has values the Gods would be proud of and the women are just there, being beautiful, and in love with them. As always the cringe is top tier.
