No Other Land 2024
Very fluid and cool merging of film from various tapes/ cameras, so definitely a cool visual experience. But the political messaging was disappointingly one-dimensional and fully pathos driven. Would have expected some more nuanced perspectives and appeals to both the ethos and logos in such a critically acclaimed documentary on such a controversial subject. Ultimately, this is a dark and emotionally taxing film that aims to sympathize the underdogs (Palestinians) and vilify those in power (Israelis), what else is new?…

The Brutalist 2024
There were parts I LOVED: cinematography, sound/ music, Brody’s performance, and generally the first half of the film (showed the immigration experience and anti-semitism in a really interesting way). The opening was also so memorable and unique, and I want to rewatch it!

I’m sorry but wtf did I just watch? Insane sweat drips, annoyingly repetitive existential techno music, emotionally avoidant and manipulative female lead, incredibly shallow and loveless relationships, queer baiting between the male leads. I despised all the characters, and none of the characters or relationships were even somewhat believable. Zendaya playing a mom and wife? Please don’t.
