i have opinions, and they're not always revolutionary.

A cute Suburban family's life goes in disarray when their daughter comes into her own, exposing a secret they had yet to share with her and brother---they're vampires. Abstainer vampires who have chosen sobriety. From this moment on, life becomes something that happens to them instead of being active participants in their decisions. The beginning beats the rest of the film. The pacing becomes wonky. Decisions made and the stakes (sometimes literally) become questionable. Acting stays intact throughout, though.
DNF. Dropped the within the first ten minutes. I appreciate the handheld camera technique, and understand the appeal both creatively and stylistically... But it was a little disorienting, and I didn't consent to being substituted for the Presence haunting these people's house. That imposed kind of involvement is why I don't do well with found-footage films.
An absolutely worth it emotional journey. Tears, laughs, screaming and cheering. This is a gorgeous film on women friendship, autonomy, relationships, and weathering life's uncertain terrains. Not a single dry eye in the house.
