this was incredible. my favorite thing I have seen by Herzog thus far, and that includes his texting and driving documentary. Herzog conjures some tremendous dread that grows and lingers with you so long it drives you insane, it becomes so inescapable that by the end you have no choice but to submit with exhaustion. I thought Kinski did a great job as Lope De Aguirre, he seemed like a divine force of evil, like a siren that lures men…
this was really fascinating and really funny. it reaffirms my belief that everyone can be weird as shit if you let them open up to you. and sometimes even if you don't. it reminded me of conversations I've had with my grandparents, great grandparents, great aunts and uncles, hearing their very earnest and impassioned rambling when I was a wee one. I was very endeared by all of the interviewees, my only gripes are that it was too short and there weren't hardly any women in it. there was only one lady and she was with her husband.
I thought this was fantastic. Marge was a really cool character, her constant unflinching politeness was almost scary. I loved that everyone who knew her and her husband seemed to really care for both of them. that small town community aura that followed Marge through her quest was incredibly charming. Francis McDormand killed it. I also loved the incompetent criminals, William H. Macy plays a great shitfather, Steve Buscemi came off super skeevy and hilarious, I was a little indifferent…
