Wes Anderson at his most idiosyncratic. Some have held this against him, claiming he is merely playing a parody of himself at this point. Yet I do not believe this film to be that one-dimensional. An unmistakable masterpiece in a film genre so frequently relegated to tired tropes and intellectually stunted characters. John Carpenter’s The Thing is a horror classic which displays all of the essential qualities of genuine terror. Suspense is maintained throughout the movie. Who is the Thing? Who isn’t?
