    DIRECTOR'S CUT

    (Was a 4.5, now a 5)

So, I watched this movie back when I was 9 or 10? My grandmother showed it to me and I thought it was a cool UFO sci-fi film. I didn't know who Spielberg was, much less Truffaut, and I just enjoyed it because it was cool.

Now, after familiarizing myself with Spielberg's works, seeing The Fabelmans, becoming…

Amazingly enough, can say that this was actually OK rather than the sauceless remake I thought it was going to be. Benefits from not being a complete retread of the original and having some unique setpieces from the original while still having that distinctive vibe.

Comparisons to Pretty Woman or Uncut Gems by itself aren't entirely inaccurate, but upon watching Anora, I've realized this is the west's answer to Millennium Mambo, but this time infused with the sheer chaos of Uncut Gems.

Chaotic fun before the clock hits 12, but once the dream is in jeopardy and the house rules come back into play, even Scorsese couldn't make the streets of New York look colder in a film.

Blew the roof off at TIFF, then sealed it right back shut. Could hear a pen drop by the end.
