Raw, gritty, honest, selfish, uncaring, brutal and deeply exploitative. Nightcrawler is a chilling critique of the dog-eat-dog nature of late stage capitalism, and it’s horrific by-products of irredeemable, manipulative sociopaths like Lou Bloom, who will do anything and hurt anyone to crawl to the top of the ladder. Gyllenhaal is incredible in this role, just unbelievably cold and unnerving. I knew this film was good when I got 2 hours in and realised I hadn’t touched my phone once since the beginning. So tightly crafted and tense.

So bad it’s good! The upped production quality and budget really make a difference. Also they got rid of the silly filter which genuinely gave the first one character but was also super intense and distracting. Solid!

Going into this movie I really didn’t know what to expect. From the trailer I had a grasp on the general gist of the narrative (which interested me largely due to its ambiguity), and while if you’ve seen the trailer you’ll pretty much know what to expect, it’s 100% worth the watch for its stylistic choices, cinematography and soundtrack (among other things) that immediately grab your attention even from the opening shots.

The soundtrack of this film had no reason…

Genuine peak cinema. Had me glued to the scene consistently throughout, and almost every shot was near perfection in my opinion. Undeniably incredible performances from every member of the cast, with unforgettable transformations from Skarsgard and Rose Depp. Extremely hard to find a single flaw in this movie, all around just an expertly crafted and powerfully haunting experience.
