Waited too long for this. The retro futurism gives it a half extra star because they nailed that, and made me feel like I was actually watching an alien film for a change. Brilliant.

I used to hate this movie for killing off what was set up after Aliens, the plot holes of how an egg got on board the Sulaco, the poor effects, and the constant nihilism throughout. But it’s actually a bit of a miracle it turned out somewhat cohesively.
And I can’t help but admire how different this film feels. The setting is probably the creepiest, being on a prison planet with no weapons.
