Civil War 2024
Frustrating, and borderline infuriating. This isn’t so much a film as it is a series of vignettes, carried by stellar actors struggling to eke a decent performance out of an inexplicably sloppy script. As with Men, Garland’s strengths with theme and character work doubly hard against him when the subject matter falls outside of his immediate grasp.
As the film drags on, what could have been a powerful commentary on the feedback loop that connects politics, warfare, and journalism instead…
