Like many of Coppola’s films, we won’t quite know how to talk about Mega until decades after its release. But for him to (at this age) spend so much of his time and money on a film that (he must’ve known for a fact) would not make money, sums up his sixty years of reckless courage that is obsolete in Hollywood today.

The best independent films are in which form matches story. Often raw, stark, and unclear — eerily poetic, virtually unexplainable until its end.
Made up of the subtlety of moments — breaths, pauses, and suggestions, rather than outcries and plot points. The viewer sits in silence with the character, absorbing expression in real time.

An underrepresented protagonist, the laconic and indifferent, absorbs the mundanity of his life as a barber until forced into existentialism, resulting in the Coens’ most underappreciated work.

Wes has mastered using his aesthetic to enhance his storytelling, leaning into the facade of fiction and his love of theater. And this seems like merely an exercise in that, and that’s perfectly okay.
