But Frida, how much I hoped you were free from love. How much I hoped romantic love did not become an object of desire, and then an emotional source. How much I hoped for a greater and extensive connection between you and your people, without a man as the intermediary. But at least you sure do now.
I 100 percent love the topic and how the film shows the “absurdity” of female resistance in socially, culturally, and politically absurd situations. It is frighteningly sad. And I cannot express my respect for the crew enough. However, however, there seems to be a lack of affectivity that connects the film with the audience. Otherwise, the film risks being a political sketch (even though the political sketch itself is great enough in this era).
Brilliant and meaningful topic. Yet it’s another “western society saves global south” story and the possibility of being saved lies in the character’s beauty being recognised by the mainstream western capitalist patriarchal society.
The pain of the harms is nothing compared to that of the innocent expectations of the world, the desire to love, and the desolate disappointment of having no one to love. All of these burst in the ending, generating a strange sense of power in deep sadness. And I thought of Nan Goldin, “she sees the future, all the beauty, and all the bloodshed”.
