This movie was meh. It’s a frustrating one for sure, unwilling to truly commit to anything. The only thing it’s mostly successful at is the chronicling of Gunnar Sønsteby’s time as a resistance fighter, and that’s fine and all, but it really lacked any real purpose to make the journey feel worth it. Not a single emotional or philosophical conflict in this film is given any moment to breathe, they’re introduced in one scene, and then resolved in another.

That was definitely a movie! A lot to digest narrative wise, so I won’t speak too much on that aspect. It was an engaging portrayal of immigration, the struggle of minorities, the power dynamics that emerge in such situations, and how an artist copes in that context. The visuals and audio design work great in this one. They create a very claustrophobic atmosphere.
