Anora 2024
Mikey Madison is absolutely fantastic. Baker’s storytelling, however, is lacklustre and leaves a bit of a hollow feeling for a character with so much potential (and execution by Madison). The social curiosity, the form of the story, and the performance is there — Baker just doesn’t quite give enough substance to the things that really matter and ultimately doesn’t quite do Anora, or sex workers in general, justice.
Also gonna watch it again later. Purely academic reasons.

Eternally relevant and universally relatable. Bergman is forcing you to witness love in its most raw emotional, and yet inevitably perfunctory, imperfect form.
Occasionally (especially in episodes 3 and 5), it feels like it’s breaking the fourth wall and forcing you to reflect upon and confront your conceptions of love and the relationship between man and woman — before Bergman ultimately mangles them in front of your eyes.
