Relationships are never easy, and they are made all the harder when we don't know ourselves. Layla is an interestingly complex character, at times loud and brash and others quiet and reflective. They meet Max, seemingly accepting and open, yet it becomes clear he wants a level of conformity from his new found partner. Disappointing experiment. Interesting idea however the pov camera put me on the verge of feeling sick. The laughable special effects didn’t help.

Inventive, original and involving. At the Sydney Film Festival director Joon Ho Bong introduced the film as a ‘Family Film’ but not the kind you’d expect. It’s a dark tale of social haves and havenots. Well observed, clever, funny but disturbing. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone so I won’t comment on why I think it falls short of a perfect score. What I will say it’s not due to the fine acting or inventive story telling.
