Jackie Brown 1997
This one is less flashy than the others, it's all in the details. Characters are archetypal but down to earth. Jackie is Tarantino's most likeable -yet still very dynamic- protagonist, but Max really is the stand out here: the strong, silent type that doesn't shy away from showing vulnerability and generosity. Robert Forster was subtle and incredibly effective.

Shutter Island 2010
Really, really solid thriller. However, it feels like it is mostly interested in its (admittedly very well crafted) gimmick while failing to say anything meaningful about the time it is set in, American society and institutions or mental health as a whole. Instead it approaches most questions it poses in a simplistic and digestible way, a far cry from Marty's usual more culturally dissective work.
A movie that hits similar beats is Memento, though its relatively smaller scale and lower stakes allow for a more earnest examination of these themes.

The Hunters 1977
The post-war setting and the premise with the dead body were very promising but the movie is just not interested in exploring its plot and characters in the slightest , instead preoccupied with vaguely artsy and surrealist direction (infuriatingly long, meaningless shots), that doesn't really serve any substantial purpose.
