Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 2024
Look, the movie is way too busy, plot lines amount to nothing, and the general structure of the plot is pretty rough. But the momentum created by the gags and effects work does so much heavy lifting for me here. So many legacy sequels try to make you cry and bog themselves down with nostalgic whimsy that’s really become grating and tiresome in recent years. While this has some of that, thankfully it’s first and foremost a comedy. There’s some laugh out loud funny bits. Michael Keaton hasn’t missed a beat.
Tim Burton might be on his way back.

It doesn't quite all come together by the end through some of the reveals, but a lot of its shortcomings are made up for by the dread inducing atmosphere it creates. Nic Cage and Maika Monroe are fantastic and play off of each other well. Nic Cage looms over this movie. A lot to like here.
