I knew I was going to love this movie when I saw its first trailer…..and then it took me a full pregnancy term to watch it. This movie does something I *love* is take a woman experience and depict it through the lens of women. You know? Shitty corn harvests, bloody tits, and unholy bonds with goats; The Witch fits right into a brand of horror I can get behind.
Anya Taylor-Joy was much better cast in this than in Emma (I’m still not over it). Verily, the entire of the cast, small though it is, really pulls it’s own weight. The young actors are just as committed as the adults, which is helpful because the plot burns as slowly as an incense block.
