FEMININE RAAAGGEEE!!
Ugh, see this is why I don’t like to give any movies 5 stars. Once I start….
But truly, one of my favorite genres is when women choose violence. However, let it not be said that this movie is just “woman angry 😡, woman kill 🔪”. There are laughs! There are surprises! There is a runtime that is right around 90 minutes! Be still, my heart
IMO, if you are going to engage in capitalism around…
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Perhaps, as a collective, we’ve said all we can about this movie. I say nay!
My first inclination was to give this only 4.5 stars because it’s a smidge long and is overrun with fatphobia. Like, it’s kind of crazy how anti-fatness was woven into the very fabric of this movie. Anyway…
I picked up on some new morsels this time. Because, let’s be honest, how many times can we obsess over how unlikeable Nate is and how stupid Andy…
I knew I was going to love this movie when I saw its first trailer…..and then it took me a full pregnancy term to watch it. This movie does something I *love* is take a woman experience and depict it through the lens of women. You know? Like so often any and all stories are told through the male lens which necessarily leads to a lacking. Anyway, this movie was as funny and charming as I knew it would be 🔮
Shitty corn harvests, bloody tits, and unholy bonds with goats; The Witch fits right into a brand of horror I can get behind.
Anya Taylor-Joy was much better cast in this than in Emma (I’m still not over it). Verily, the entire of the cast, small though it is, really pulls it’s own weight. The young actors are just as committed as the adults, which is helpful because the plot burns as slowly as an incense block.
I generally love…
