  A Shock to the System 1990

  There was nothing very memorable about the plot and even the characters seem half-formed, but the stylization and soundtrack kept me watching. It made a black comedy about a corporate worker running off his own ego seem lighthearted. It almost made me sympathetic to the main character (mostly bc Michael Caine performed him so well).

  1) Wrestler plotline was just very surface level 
  2) I actually thought the mom daughter interactions were cute and funny but also wish that some of the main character’s ideas about it and the mom’s own desires were explored more 
  3) No connection whatsoever to the love interest LMFAO 
  4) Fawzia Mirza is hot 
  Overall: cute, somewhat wholesome, I just wanted MORE depth all around but I still enjoyed seeing Fawzia Mirza on screen

  I was really excited to watch this and the premise seemed interesting but WOW it just did not seem to have anything positive to say about being gay OR being a sexworker, despite the fact that it starts off as if it’s going to. Like wtf was up with convincing Debu, the gay lead, that he should try to have sex with a woman because how can he know he doesn’t want that if he’s never tried. And the “respect your body” shit towards Juhi, who’s doing survival sex work??? Super weird
