    Adored this oddball film, which surfs the line between surrealism, social satire and science fiction so adeptly that I’d place it up there with the best of them (Brazil, Eternal Sunshine, City of Lost Children). It’s such a pleasure to see Bong Joon Ho return to thought-provocative science fiction, which he’s a proven master of (Snowpiercer, The Host Okja). By far my top film of 2025 so far.

    Interesting enough mashup of sci fi, horror and rom com. As anticipated, not a great script; but some decent acting makes up for it. What they did nail here is the often retro music and art direction, which offered a refreshing contrast to the futurist environment and storyline.

    I was skeptical due to the multi-verse storyline, which I’ve honestly had little interest in exploring historically speaking. That said, the combination of the cast and A24 intrigued me enough to put my multi-verse prejudice aside and go in with an open mind.

    Though it took until the second act to really come together for me, the set up was essential for letting the elaborate story unfold. There were a few times I thought it was trying to do too…
