Someone tell me I wasn't the only person who's heart sank today at the increasingly alarming realization that we're in hell now. America has become a nightmare and I wish someone would wake me up.

How long before the dictatorship starts coming for me and you? It happened in Iowa today. They stripped the basic rights from a minority they don't like. I'm non-binary; what is that fact going to cost me when the weight of the government is coming…

It's striking how similar a story the fall of the republic is here to our own real life situation in America. The government bodies can't agree on anything (thanks to Republican obfuscation) and both bodies eventually elect a dark warrior to lead them.

The Star Wars republic is replaced by an all-powerful dark authoritarian. I fear America, too, will soon be the same.

With that in mind, watching this is depressing. But also riveting.

A pair of mice (Mickey and Minnie?) try to survive various ghouls and creepies. Enjoyable.

A cat and his unidentifiable companion experience a sunken ghost ship and I have questions.

They moved awfully quick for being underwater and I still don't know how they were breathing, but I guess those things don't matter in the cartoon world? Which gives it an unfair leg up on live action films if you asked me.

Seriously, has anyone ever noticed that?

Also, did drunken barflies sing barbershop diddies back in the day? I might actually go to a bar if that was still happening!

Nothing to see here. It's just two otherwise normal people in the last stages of madness and decay. An American horror story. Though oddly inferior to 1928's other version, the French version: It went too strange. You never go too strange.

There is lots of German expressionism, if that floats your boat. But don't miss the nod to 1920's The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

Fairuza Balk singlehandedly creating an archetype. The others are fine and all, but Ms Balk is definitely the draw here.
