Old & gritty 35mm with burned in NOR subs. Adds a lot of texture which is nice, but the version I saw back in university was cleaner.

Spelling things out too clearly has always been my main gripe with Alexander Payne's works, but the Bostonian locations here are as natural as they are an essential part of the ensemble (similar to the self-titled state in Payne's "Nebraska"). The atmosphere built here makes this a surprisingly enjoyable & touching Christmas watch. Nice revisioning of the classic Scrooge archetype.
