  Genuinely very good. First 2024 film I feel super strongly about. I selfishly wanted more of Elwood’s life after the Academy. But it’s fine. Just incredible.

  Liked most of this movie. The production design, costumes, the period authenticity felt so good. Guy Pearce was incredible. The last hour felt meandering and the last 30 minutes was a vibe killer. Like it ran out of gas and they just wanted to finish up already. 

  It felt a bit like a spiritual sequel to There Will Be Blood.

  An absolutely stunning film visually. Benedict Cumberbatch was phenomenal and should get Oscar consideration for this. But I was put off by the lack of structure and weird and abrupt ending. A slow burn with no real climax and an ending that just comes out of nowhere. Like a band being told they have 5 minutes remaining in their set. There were elements of the film to ultimately enjoy but there was a lot of random jumps to the next thing and it never had a punch behind it.

  The trailers made this movie look like a two pack of ass. This movie was unbelievably good. Ending was a bit heavy handed but that’s okay. The rest was incredible. It’s truly shameful this movie flopped. Chazelle is a master craftsman.
