  I loved the house with the eyes, and the red pipes and the useless modernity. Everything about its clockwork made my mind rest the way Wes Anderson films do. My favourite thing was the repeated gesture of Gèrard reaching for his uncle (and dad's) hand.

  It's not the best movie, ok, but when I was 18 and I had it on dvd I watched it on a regular rotation and it has therefore formed pathways in my brain and the colour palette is just something I need to see every now and then
