One of the most incredible films I’ve ever seen. Scorsese’s care and passion for the subject matter and story shines through to create one of his most unique films, and also quite possibly the most beautiful in his whole filmography. His 26 year long dedication to this story absolutely paid off. The performances are all stellar with the absolute standout, of course, being Andrew Garfield who gives not just a career best performance but also, in my humble opinion, one of the best performances in all of cinema. If, like many and myself, you overlooked Silence upon its initial release I highly recommend you check it out.

I feel very conflicted on Roland Joffé’s The Mission. This film has some absolutely gorgeous cinematography, excellent lead performances by both Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons, and one of the best scores I’ve ever heard courtesy of the late great Ennio Morricone. However, these  masterful elements of the film have to co-exist with a weak script and weak supporting performances, as well as an extremely poor representation of the indigenous Guarani people.

Scattered throughout The Mission are a handful of…

Just the last two episodes of the anime with the animation touched up for a cinematic presentation. I wish they had just done this from the get go instead of the way the series finale was handled. This series has been such a big part of my life for so long it’s a bit difficult to say goodbye, but I’m happy with how it ended and I’m glad I went to go see this before it leaves cinemas.

    Boy Kills World

    ★★

Boy Kills World is a flat and lifeless action romp with a plot far more at home in a video game than in a feature film. Everything here is fine with a capital F. The direction is okay, the best word to describe it would be serviceable, and the performances are about as dull as the script. There’s nothing here that you haven’t seen in countless other films, shows, games, or comics before, and it doesn’t do anything to innovate with…

Absolutely visceral. One of the best action films in recent memory and a spectacular directorial debut for Dev Patel. Great camerawork paired with inspired direction, especially in the film’s action sequences, I’m very excited to see how Patel plans to follow this up.
