Eraserhead 1977
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I mean lynch classic, funnily enough I found this to be a bit humorous at a lot of different points like the baby and the mom coming on to bro and just the big dancing head. I love how anything is possible in a Lynchian society. Like of course you can behead a man and use his head to make pencils but he’s actually still alive and just ends up in his dreamworld. Love the absurdity of it all. And the filmmaking techniques are so well done in this. Sound design, cinematography and lighting were exceptional. More lynch to come.

Daughters of the Dust 1991
I loved this so much. Took me a long time to watch but wow so happy I finallly did, what a beautiful display of family of ancestors of immigration and sisterhood. The difference between the aspirations of the older generation and the younger generation are stark and tell a lot about our innate ability to be tied to a place and a culture. And lol did I already say it was beautiful, the music, the slower fps scenes mixed into the rest of the movie was truly beautiful. Cant wait to see this again like next week hehehehe

Enjoy every time although this time really felt like a first watch, a little funnier than I remembered although still heart wrenching. The way Jane and hunter hug at the end wowowow love this entire story. After talking to soph, realizing the character studies in this… the complexities… how much was said without being said… god what a fucking film

I really love vardas approach to filmmaking, really marrying all forms of a film to create such interesting stories. The sharp drop in emotion in the film is one that I don’t feel so often when watching movies that was super incredible and the surrealism aspect to it too is something I don’t usually associate with French new wave but it’s so apparent in this film and I can’t wait to watch some of her other earlier work to see…
