But I mostly couldn’t stop thinking about the parable for motherhood: exchanging your livelihood and energy for the continuing legacy of your child. I love watching M Night make movies where his infamous reputation is the actual star of the show (Hartnett was lovely though). All of the tension I felt watching this movie came from wondering what he as a filmmaker was going to do next. I felt nothing for these characters, did not care about what would happen to them, I only cared about what would happen in the film. (Non-derogatory.)

I cannot NOT like this movie. Everyone went absolutely balls to the wall apeshit, committed to having the most possible fun while portraying some of the most absolute sorrowful aspects of living a human life. If you’re mad at this movie, you are mad at fun. Also I fell madly in love with that puppet the way we love kittens and puppies within like 15 seconds of her being on screen. I would kill for baby Annette.
