Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge 1995
Apparently was a favorite of mine when I was a toddler, but I obviously have no recollection of specific scenes that spoke to me then. While it doesn’t really align with my perspective, I admire the craft and the ability to package many real tensions of the Indian diaspora into a rich epic. I’ve seen the comparisons to There Will Be Blood and largely concur. Personally was reminded of The Master, which also concerns itself with the utopian fervor and cult like eccentricity of post-war America. The Brutalist took me to a very different place, however.
